Pope Soter

Also known as the Pope of Charity, was pope from 166 to 174. Declared that matrimony was only valid as a sacrament if blessed by a priest. Born in Fondi (Italy) and died, the story has it, as a martyr. Buried in the Calixtus cemetery in Rome. Feast day : 22 April.
