Tharwa, (postcode 2620) is a village within the Australian Capital Territory south of Canberra. Tharwa Bridge, the oldest surviving bridge in the ACT, was opened in 1895 and crosses the Murrumbidgee River. Tharwa is located at the junction of the Tidbinbilla Road and Tharwa Road. It has shops, a school, Saint Edmund's Church, Cuppacumbalong Cemetery, Cuppacumbalong craft centre, a hall and tennis club. Tharwa was named after the Aboriginal word for Mount Tennent.
It is the oldest official settlement in the Australian Capital Territory, proclaimed a settlement in 1862.
