Lessons in Love is the third studio album by Lloyd. It was released on August 5, 2008.[1]
Production
The album was originally to be titled Sexual Education. Lloyd stated that he would be writing and producing on this album. Production will also include Big Reese & Jasper, Eric Hudson, J. Lack, Polow da Don and Oak of the Knightwritaz.
Singles
The first single, "How We Do It (Around My Way)" features rapper Ludacris, and peaked at number #77 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.[2] The song will be featured on the Wal-Mart version release of the album in the U.S. Also, it has been confirmed that it will be a bonus track for the UK.
The second single from the album is "Girls Around the World" and features rapper Lil Wayne. It was officially made available to U.S. radio stations for airplay consideration on May 12, 2008.[3] So far, it has peaked at #13 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.[4]
The third single is "Year of the Lover". The fourth single is "I Want You"
Reception
Lessons in Love received mixed or average reviews from critics. It holds a 60 out of 100 from Metacritic.[5] Allmusic gave the album 3 out of 5 stars saying, "Between 'I'm Wit It', 'Girls', and a couple other standouts, Lessons in Love cannot be dismissed, but Lloyd will have to really change it up with his fourth album to evade a real holding pattern."[6] Rolling Stone also gave the album 3 out of 5 stars saying, "Throughout Lessons in Love, Lloyd sounds like he's actually having fun dishing out come-ons, adding an emphatic exuberance to each one."[7]
The album debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 album charts selling 51,000 copies in the first week of release.[8] In its second week, it sold 22,102 copies, bringing the total to 73,386 copies sold.[9]
