Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Bonding for Today (talk | contribs) at 23:49, 9 December 2008 (Corrected wrong usage). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Simple username changes

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions
  1. Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
    • Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
    • Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
    • Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
    • Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
  2. Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
  3. Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
  4. Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Place your request here.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=.
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
    • Do not change anything else.
  6. Select Publish changes.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Requests that do not follow these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

For stewards, global renamers, and clerks

Only stewards and global renamers have the authority to approve or decline requests. Requests are automatically clerked by a bot, but occasionally human intervention is required, particularly for malformed requests. If you would like to help out with clerking, please see Wikipedia:Changing username/Assistance.

Current requests

=== Markmu06 → MusicalM ===

Mahboubian → Boubi

Bureaucrat note: Are you Boubi on Commons? Just checking, if I rename you it should be usurpable, but I want to know. bibliomaniac15 02:48, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Renrutal → ZeroUm

ren (talk) 21:39, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat note: Please post confirmation that you are ZeroUm on the Portuguese Wikipedia. EVula // talk // // 23:28, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lynnctd → LynnCTD

Bureaucrat note: - To make the first letter appear lowercase add {{lowercase}} to your userpage. Also you may want to customize your signature. Would that suffice? Kingturtle (talk) 16:48, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
 Done bibliomaniac15 05:43, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dukes.simon → Yorkshire29

Bureaucrat note: User Dukes.simon has been migrated to the unified login system. Renaming it will cause the local user to be detached from the global one. Will that be ok? Kingturtle (talk) 16:49, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Kingturtle (talk) 03:21, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

rivalmaster → rivalmaster

Three issues: First, promotional accounts are explicitly disallowed and are blocked on sight. Second, MediaWiki's interface automatically capitalizes usernames' first letters. Third, the "User" designator on that page means it is a userpage, not an article (articles do not have "<prefix>:" at the beginning of their names). -Jéské Couriano (v^_^v) 21:56, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Furthermore, no matter what username you end up with, do not make edits to Wikipedia that promote or even have to do with Rival Marketing. Please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for more information on this. Kingturtle (talk) 22:05, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Uuugggg → Alextd

Clerk note: All requests must be made while logged in. Please log in and make your request again. Also, the name you requested is taken, please select a different name. Useight (talk) 06:57, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Booglamay → Cycle~

Bureaucrat note: Are you sure you want to detach your account from your SUL? bibliomaniac15 02:15, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Requestee note - does that refer to my global, cross-WM account? If so, I'm happy for the change - I've not got around to using my account on the other projects so I can chase it up if I ever migrate. Booglamay (talk) - 03:34, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it does. PeterSymonds (talk) 13:47, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done Not only is she right, but she's 25% more right than usual. Or should that be 33%? I never was much good at percentages. --Dweller (talk) 09:39, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Dude, EVula is a guy. The name is misleading, I know. Avruch T 13:46, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It wasn't so much the name as WP:EVULA that convinced me. Now I know he's a he, I know that WP:EVULA cannot possibly be correct. --Dweller (talk) 13:50, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: I gave the formatting of this request a minor fix. Original post can be found here. Useight (talk) 16:58, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done Normally I wouldn't have performed this rename, due to the fact that you had no edits outside this rename request, but the real name concern changed things for me. EVula // talk // // 23:04, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pah777 → Paaah

Bureaucrat note: Performing this rename will detach you from your unified login (such as your accounts on the French and Spanish Wikipedias, or Commons). You'll need to be renamed in those locations as well; is that okay? EVula // talk // // 23:09, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I have already requested the change in Spanish here (but it seems that there is a problem with SUL ?) --Pah777 (talk) 21:42, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat note: Personally, I am uneasy changing a name to a character in Nazi Literature in the Americas. Kingturtle (talk) 14:17, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, I suppose. Obviously, the book is a work of satire (and fictional). I'm not trying to be inflammatory, and the book is about the absurdity of characters with Fascist views. If you like, you can read the section on Luz Mendiluce Thompson here (it's quite short, and starts halfway down).Nktpr (talk) 21:58, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mikerbot → Vighnaraja

Bureaucrat note: Is there another username you'd like to have? I'm somewhat hesitant to rename to a religious figure's name (though I admit to a certain level of ignorance when it comes to the Hindu faith). EVula // talk // // 20:56, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • It is occasionally used as a surname in India, and I assure you it is not offensive. A user search for Ganesh returns almost a thousand hits. Shiva the same. Krishna gets many thousands. Other religions are the same. A search for Allah returns some actually offensive results, by the way. But if I am the exception, I will come up with something else.Mikerbot (talk) 22:06, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
