Judo (柔道) is a martial art which originated in Japan. Judo is said to be a refinement of Jiu jitsu, and was founded by Jigoro Kano in 1882.

While judo is indeed a martial art, it closely resembles wrestling, in that there is very little striking involved - only grappling.

Judo became an Olympic sport in 1964.

A judo player (judoka) can aquire grades (dan), each rewarded by a special colour belt. A judoka with highest achievable grade wears a black belt.
