Hedwig,or Jadwiga of Poland, acceeded as queen of Poland in 1382/3. She died 1399.

She was the daughter of Louis I the Great of Hungary, king of Hungary and Poland.

It is said that Hedwig was betrothed to William (Wilhelm) of Habsburg .

Her father Louis I had made an arrangement with Sigismund for Sigismund to marry either

Hedwig or Hedwig's sister Mary.

Sigismund got married to Mary and Hedwig wound up marrying the duke of Lithuania Jagiello, because Louis wanted her to have a husband ,when she took over the reign of Poland. Louis died in 1382.

Hedwig ruled as Jadwiga of Poland (some say as king of Poland) and co-ruled with Jagiello.

When she died in 1399 Jagiello became the sole ruler as Wladislaw II Jagiello.
