User talk:Sewing
I have absolved myself of any connection with Wikipedia. See my user page for an explanation. --Sewing 18:28, 26 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- I know you're pissed after arguing on WP. Nothing wrong with being pissed at other's "persistence", as you said it. But you must realize that conflict is a part of every place, even, if you can believe, in real life! ;-) At least here at WP, people debate over significant cultural or political issue, not whether your car scraped my car.... Nevertheless, I do find that many Wikipedians are too stubborn to be socializing with. I prefer arguing with somebody with a face, so I work almost exclusively on noncontroversial topics. I know that's basically your practice as well, and it's your 1st argument in months. I don't think there's any involved Wikipedians that haven't got into an argument before (unintionally or not). And yes, there are some real bitches at WP. But what did you expect? We are the Utopikipedia, the Immaculate Encyclopedia? Heheh! ....No.
- There will always be annoying asocialites living in the corners of any community. We cannot purge them, so we'll just ignore them. Think of those unpleasant corners of WP as those hate/racist/cult websites on the WWW that you aren't interested in. Think of WP as an uncontrollable WWW (it is justified by many as "Wikipedia is not paper! [it can contain 99999 Kb BS! It doesn't matter! Size is cheap..blahhhh"). But! It is a unique "WWW reincarnate" in that you can share your knowledge/info. And that part of you will be forever there available to all little kids curious, all students researching, and all oldmen just wandering around looking for fun readings. Isn't that cool?! Anyway, you just work in your department, they in theirs. You don't have to feel responsible for the decadence of the world! Such responsiblity is vested in our supremely powerful emperor! He should feel responsible, not you, a mere commoner!
- Come back and satiate the hole of knowledge in the flawed universe! --Menchi 05:33, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- LOL... Thanks for your encouraging words, and also for the advice you've given me in the past.... Maybe I'll come back after I've taken a Wikibreak, purge my watchlist of articles that raise my blood pressure, and start afresh. --Sewing 17:13, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- Please stay... I can recommend taking a Wikibreak and purging the Watchlist... It did help me... Kokiri 23:35, 28 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- Cool, I see you didn't leave. Kokiri 09:33, 2 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks. I think I'll just keep a low profile and avoid any Korea-related disputes for a while. I don't like controversy, and it's bad for my health! In the words of Rodney King on the night of the LA riots, "Can't we all just get along?" --Sewing 18:13, 2 Mar 2004 (UTC)
발해
I have checked on the web and found that both spellings Barhae and Balhae are used for the Korean 발해. Actually, the government brochure I checked uses Balhae. -- Kokiri 18:27, 3 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Whoops: my mistake! I'll fix my changes unless you've already done so. --Sewing 18:31, 3 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Don't think there was much of a mistake. I wasn't sure about the English spelling either... Kokiri 20:22, 3 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Disclaimer
I have stolen this from you; hope you don't mind ;-) Kokiri 20:22, 3 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Hah, hah! I guess I can't complain--GFDL and all that! I think for their own protection, every Wikipedian should have such a disclaimer on their user page. --Sewing 20:23, 3 Mar 2004 (UTC)
I'm the person who did the Bak Jonghi thing. I was just testing the water to see who else out there is interested in this sort of thing although it was embarrassing to make a mistake. I have put a compromise idea for Korean names esp. irregular and ugly ones like Rhee, Yi, Lee etc. on the Naming Conventions:Korea page. I seek you permission to enact my format because the current situation is annoying to anyone who can read Hangeul. DMC 05:54, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- I've always thought that Rhee and Yi look very cool, because they look Chinese, but yet possess an exotic quality. --Menchi 06:16, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Part of the beauty of Korean culture is the total lack of conformity when it comes to romanizing personal names! --Sewing 08:15, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- David: if by mistake you mean the misspelling, don't worry about it: we all make spelling mistakes. If you meant renaming the article, that isn't a mistake...people do all sorts of things like that on Wikipedia all the time--such actions may be popular or unpopular, controversial or uncontroversial, but it's all part of what Wikipedia is about! Anyhow, I'll respond to your suggestions on Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Korean) about 16:00 UTC (GMT) Thursday. --Sewing 08:15, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Korean national flower
Hi Sewing, saw your addition to Rose of Sharon - unfortunately, what the Korean page you linked shows, is that the Korean national flower is not Hypericum calycinum, but another species, Hibiscus syriacus (no page for this species yet, but see Hibiscus). I suspect this is a case of translation error in translating from Korean to English. If I get time tomorrow, I'll create a page for Hibiscus syriacus and transer the Korea reference across.
