M83 or Messier 83 is a spiral galaxy in constellation Hydra, also known as NGC 5236 or the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy. It is one of the closest and brightest barred spiral galaxies in the sky, visible with binoculars in the constellation of Hydra; the nickname "Southern Pinwheel" is due to its spiral arms.
