Robert Smith Guitarist, Vocalist (born April 21, 1959) is the driving force behind The Cure, an English band generally described as goth, but considered by many as difficult to classify into one genre. Smith has written or co-written the bulk of the group's music and lyrics in a career spanning 25 years. He has also been involved in other musical side-projects, most notably playing guitar in Siouxsie and the Banshees (1979-84). His hair is legendary. His lyrics are often haunting and could be better described as poetry set to music.

Smith married Mary Poole in 1988.
