Medieval Warm Period

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Ed Poor (talk | contribs) at 15:51, 25 February 2002 (Medieval Warm Period is the more common of the two terms for the period, I guess). The Medieval Warm Period or Medieval climate optimum was an unusually warm period in history lasting (200? 300? or ???) years, from ???? to 1300(?). During this time wine grapes were grown in England as well as on the Continent up to 300 miles north of their present northerly growing limit. Also during this time, the Vikings took advantage of ice-free seas to colonize Greenland and other outlying lands of the far north. The Medieval climate optimum preceded the so-called Little Ice Age, a period of global cooling that began about 1350.
