Janis Ian (April 7, 1951 - ) is an American songwriter, singer and multi-instrumental musician. Born Janis Eddy Fink, she changed her name whilst still a child. She had a highly successful singing career in the 1960s and 1970s, during which time some of her songs such as "At Seventeen" achieved the status of classics. Since then, she has also had a sustained career as a songwriter, and is an outspoken critic of the RIAA, a record insustry organization which she sees as acting against the interests of musicians and consumers.
