Peter Jackson (b. October 31, 1961): New Zealander film director first known for his "splatstick" horror comedies, came to prominence and received Oscar nominations for his movie Heavenly Creatures, now best known as director of the epic film trilogy The Lord of the Rings.

Jackson's Heavenly Creatures is the film that launched the career of actress Kate Winslet.
