FormatFactory is an ad-supported freeware multimedia converter that can convert video, audio, and picture files. It is also capable of ripping DVDs and CDs to other file formats, as well as creating .iso images. It can convert formats like .FLL video which many other converters are unable to handle. The program can also join multiple video files together into one. Below are the output formats that FormatFactory is capable of writing to.

Features

  • It can rip unprotected DVDs to video files, as well as CDs to audio files.
  • It can convert DVDs and CDs to .iso and .CSO. It can also convert .iso to .cso.
  • It can merge video files together (as of version 1.70 (where it could only merge 2 files at a time), and was fixed to merge multiple files in version 1.80), and can now merge audio files together (as of version 2.00).
  • It can find information on a video file (bit rate, codec etc.).
  • It can save custom file settings for media conversion (as of version 2.10).
  • It can crop videos (as of 2.10).

License controversy

Since the 22nd of June 2009 there is an open issue on FFmpeg's issue tracker, "Format Factory license violation" http://roundup.ffmpeg.org/roundup/ffmpeg/issue1214, that has yet to be resolved.

Beyond that, FormatFactory seems to be in violation of the licenses of MPlayer and several other open source projects.
