The Uetsu Main Line (羽越本線 Uetsu Honsen) is a railway in the Tohoku region of the island of Honshu, Japan. It connects Niitsu Station in the city of Niigata, Niigata Prefecture and Akita Station in Akita, Akita Prefecture. The Uetsu Main Line is part of the JR East system.

Events

On December 25, 2005, all six cars of a limited express train on the Uetsu Line derailed in the Yamagata prefecture, about 350 kilometres (217 miles) north of Tokyo. Three of those cars turned over, causing the deaths of four people and injuring more than two dozen others.
