Phillip Fulmer
Phillip Fulmer is the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers. He has been the head coach since 1993 after filling in several games in 1992 for the ailing Johnny Majors. Fulmer has won two Southeastern Conference championships, in 1997 and 1998, and a national championship in 1998. Coach Fulmer's record over the last ten years of 101-25 is the best in the SEC.
Fulmer turned Tennessee into a national power from 1993 to 1998, when he won the first ever BCS National Championship Game. However, from that point on, his Tennessee teams have consistently underachieved. The team did make it to the 2001 SEC Championship Game, only to lose to a weaker LSU team and miss out on a National Championship game appearance. This slip in performance was highlighted in the 2005 season, where the Vols were ranked #3 in the country in the preseason. They finished 5-6, with losses to Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame, and South Carolina. The worst loss of the season came against rival Vanderbilt at home. The team went from a National Championship contender to not even making a bowl game.
He has a wife, Vicky, and 4 children: Phillip Jr., Courtney, Brittany, and Allison.
Phillip Fulmer is currently under contract with Tennessee until the 2012 season.
