When It's Lamp Lighting Time In The Valley is a 1933 song. When the song was translated into Swedish in 1935, the song was turned into a Christmas song: När ljusen tändas därhemma. När ljusen tändas därhemma, which describes an old man/woman sitting and dreaming of his/her childhood and old home, became a popular Christmas song in Sweden during the 1930s and 1940s. It's not mentioned in the song text, but many people associate the song with the emigration from Sweden to the USA during the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century and Sweden being the state were the childhood and home is. It is most older people who sing and like När ljusen tändas därhemma, not children. The song has also been translated into Norwegian as Når lysene tennes der hjemme and Finnish as Kodin kynttilät.
