She is supposed to represent the Philippines in the Miss World 1999 pageant in London, but, the organizers of the Binibining Pilipinas Pageant (Miss Philippines Pageant) decided to send her to Trinidad & Tobago for the Miss Universe 1999 Pageant due to some problems with the original Bb. Pilipinas Ms. Universe winner., luckily she won as First runner-up and Best in Style Award.

In the Miss Universe pageant live from Trinidad & Tobago, Quiambao finished second in the preliminary judging with a score of 9.52. In the semifinals, she finished second in the swimsuit competition with a score of 9.32 and also in the evening gown competition with a score of 9.42. Spain's Diana Nogueira dominated both competitions with scores of 9.33 and 9.45 respectively. However, Nogueira clinched the 2nd runnner-up plum having been unable to finish her answer to the final question. Many believe that Quiambao is cheated because Botswana is their first representative and the place where the pageant is held is a country of black people
