Intercourse, Pennsylvania is a town located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Intercourse, like Paradise is a popular site for tourists who like the name of the town. Town residents believe that the name is a source of amusement. Besides its name, Intercourse is famous for its communities of Amish. The town was filmed for the movie Witness.

Economy

Tourism and farmland are major industries in the town. Small businesses sell Amish crafts, food, and give horse and buggy rides. The town thrives on thousands of tourists that visit the region each year. Most of the land surrounding the town is farmland.

History

Intercourse was founded in 1754. The town was originally named after the Cross Keys Tavern. Intercourse became the official name in 1814. The origin of the name is disputed. One possibility is for a race course at the intersection of the two major roads the cross in the center of town.
