Chris Parks (born October 4, 1973 in Washington, D.C.) is an American professional wrestler, best known for his appearances with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling as "The Monster" Abyss.

Career

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling

Prior to his regular as a TNA Wrestling superstar Chris Parks wrestling as "Eric Justice" (much unlike the Abyss gimmick and unmasked) debuted in the promotion in their first ever Pay Per View. He was a part of the 20 man gauntlet for the gold. He later returned with his current Abyss gimmick in 2003 defeating the sandman.

Abyss went on to have feuds with several major top stars in TNA, including AJ Styles, Monty Brown, Raven, and Sabu. He has also had several alliances in the past, with notable former teammates being Kid Kash, Styles, and Brown.

Since late 2004, he has become known for carrying around his trademark bag of thumbtacks to the ring and attempting to use them by spreading them around the ring and slamming his opponents on them with his devastating Black Hole Slam finishing maneuver. This has established Abyss as a ruthless hardcore wrestler, as he has participated in several major hardcore gimmick matches, including Monster's Ball, Full Metal Mayhem, and Final Assault.

In the early part of 2004, Abyss made a push towards the World Title, defeating Jeff Hardy in the Full Metal Mayhem match at TNA Against All Odds in February to earn an NWA World Heavyweight Title shot on a future episode of TNA Impact, but the title match never occured. Abyss also faced off with AJ Styles at TNA Lockdown in April for another world title shot, but lost. Abyss finally earned a shot at the title by winning the Guantlet for the Gold match at TNA Hard Justice, but Director of Authority Dusty Rhodes turned the matchup into a 5-man King of the Mountain Match with the other eligible contenders, forcing Abyss to have to contend with 4 other competitors for the belt, which ultimately cost him.

Abyss has more recently aligned with James Mitchell, who has offered to be his manager. With Mitchell in his corner directing him, Abyss has become an even more violent force in TNA, overcoming even his deep-seated fear of barbed wire in winning a series of matches with Sabu. He currently is a part of Jeff Jarrett's war on TNA.

Independent Promotions

As opposed to his monster heel image in TNA, Abyss is a face in NWA Cyberspace. He is billed there as "the man who has bled buckets for NWA Cyberspace". He is just as extreme there as he is at TNA. He was finally rewarded for his hard work when Jasmin St. Claire put him in a three-way dance with Jeff Jarrett and "Wildcat" Chris Harris for the NWA Cyberspace Heavyweight Championship at NWA CS Above The Law on November 19, 2005, in Wayne, New Jersey, after Jarrett and Harris attempted to pull a Fingerpoke of Doom-style screwjob on the fans. Abyss won the match despite losing a two-out-of-three-falls Tables Match to Rhino earlier in the night.

Abyss is also the current Border City Wrestling Can-Am Heavyweight Champion, having won the title from Bobby Roode on September 15, 2005, in Windsor, Ontario.
