MI5 (Military Intelligence section 5) also known as The Security Service is one of the British secret service agencies. Its remit covers the protection of British Parliamentary democracy and economic interests, and fighting serious crime. It is mainly concerned with internal security, whilst MI6 looks after external security. For a long time the government insisted it didn't exist, despite the obvious existence of the American FBI and the previous existence of the Soviet KGB and its headquarters fairly well known.
