Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Conservation Worldwide
Welcome, Renata! All those look like quite fascinating subjects! Drop a line at Wikipedia:Village pump if you have questions, and I look forward to seeing your contributions. -- April
Hi Renata, welcome to the wiki! It's great to see somebody starting to write about lieder, I've been putting off doing it myself for some time now. However, the convention is to place articles under singular titles, so when I'm sure you've finished editing stuff there, I'm going to move it across to lied (or you can do it youself of course). Happy editing --Camembert
Hello, and welcome to wikipedia! :-) --KQ
Hello Renata, and welcome! Don't know much about Germanic topics I'm afraid (whatever they are -- you'd have to specify a bit), but we'll see what we can do! We must certainly be aware of Wikipedia's NPOV policy. By the way, where did you learn all those languages? Have a nice weekend -- Kurt, 7/9/02, 7:45 p.m.
Please don't create pages with no content to de-orphan an article or for any other reason for that matter (see What Wikipedia is not #11). Shall you write a stub article for Thule Society or should I? --mav
Please forgive the above tone (it's been a long day). What I should have said is this; Creating new pages just to de-orphan something will not always really do the trick. For example creating List of Italian painters to de-orph Mariotto Albertinelli may have taken his name off the orphans list but he still was an orphan. Look at the "What links here" link for both of the pages. Until I linked his name to the more comprehensive list of painters (and here of course) the two pages where twin orphans -- they only linked to each other and not to any other page in the whole database. --mav
I answered your query on my talk page. I'm off to bed now. --mav
Hi, Renata -- Glad to help! You can get rid of pages that you start by mistake by turning one page into a redirect to another page. For instance, because singular names are preferred for articles, oats has actually been redirected to oat. This is done by replacing the contents with this line:
#REDIRECT [[oat]]
I hope that shows up correctly - just go to the "Editing help" page and search for "redirect". If you really want to get rid of a page, there's a page that lists pages to be deleted - just edit to add your page, and somebody will delete it (or not). -- Marj 00:44 Sep 11, 2002 (UTC)
The page Marj is referring to is Wikipedia:Votes for deletion Andre Engels 20:58 Sep 20, 2002 (UTC)
--- Hi there Renata,
I do not agree with the classification you did on List of famous French people. Could you check on the talk page and comment please. --user:anthere
Hi. I've merged the two Gérard Depardieu pages. -- Tarquin 09:17 Sep 20, 2002 (UTC)
I have already shrunk the image of the Dom of Cologne for you. It can't be done on the site, so what I did was download it, shrink it in some program, and then re-upload it. Andre Engels 20:41 Sep 20, 2002 (UTC)
- I can do some more cleanups of these images when I get home tonight. --LDC
- Regarding the corn dollies: Has been done, but if you have a similar request again it would be best to give the filename rather than the descriptive name - it's easier to search for. Regarding doing this at home: I have no idea, it depends on what type(s) of image processing program(s) you have. Andre Engels 20:58 Sep 20, 2002 (UTC)
Re NT: Oh dear, no I'm *not* happy, I seem to have cheesed you off, which was not my intention at all!
I really don't know what to do with this now. I have tidied it up so that the main NT page does not point to the counties list. Maybe I will just leave it and see what happens.
I'm very sorry if I have annoyed you. User:Nevilley
Thanks for the note. I am sure we can come up with something that works! Nev
I think I may have been completely wrong about the NT page anyway. Really there is nothing wrong with a long list as long as it does not obscure other information and I am not sure why I thought there was. I'm going to (try and) leave it alone for a bit and (try and) shut up for a while and be non-interventionist, and see what happens! Nevilley
Thanks for the note. It's the sort of idea which (a) I think is good and (b) will make me wake up screaming in the night because of its complexity! I don't think I know enough about this field to really offer to help but I would love to see where you go with it. The only reason I initially got into the NT bit was because I wanted to start a wiki on Dunstanburgh and it just sort of grew!!! :) Please feel free to go back to your listing idea on the NT page, I promise I won't trash it again, and we can see where it leads. Nevilley
Seen on User talk:Nevilley:
- (Renata writes:) Eventually I'm hoping to come up with an idea for a kind of portal where every kind of conservation agency or charity can be listed, whether nature cons. or buildings or whatever, also the welter of designations (ESA, SSSI, AONB etc.). I've made a bit of a start, but it's just the tip of the iceberg.....*shudder*
Terrifying, but it's an excellent plan! I look forward to it. I have here a booklet on Spurn Point which I keep meaning to use to write an article. I'll keep an eye out & help out with what I can. -- Tarquin 22:21 Oct 6, 2002 (UTC)
Oh and another thing ... how do you fancy trying to explain the difference between, say, the National Trust and English Heritage? I started up pages about both (again, because of Dunstanburgh) but it's horribly complicated - all the quangoes and council for this and that, what has governmental authority and what doesn't,which org's members can vote on policy - what a minefield! Rather you than me!!! :) Nevilley
Renata, on this page and on User talk:Nevilley you’re writing about the conservation pages. Some time ago I have proposed a WikiProject Protected Areas. So far, there hasn’t been anyone else interested in it. I realize it’s not exactly the same thing you want to do, but you might have a look at it. I’ve started with the Protected areas of Australia and I think I’ll have enough work with that for the foreseeable future. But eventually we could cooperate by linking articles or exchanging information. You don’t have to answer immediately because it’s already 1am here (Belgium), so I’ll have to catch some sleep :-) Guy 22:58 Oct 6, 2002 (UTC)
