The Planets is an orchestral suite by the English composer Gustav Holst, written in 1916. Each movement is named after a planet (and its corresponding Roman deity):

Mars, the Bringer of War
Venus, the Bringer of Peace
Mercury, the Winged Messenger
Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity
Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age
Uranus, the Magician
Neptune, the Mystic

Although The Planets was well-received and remains his most popular work, Holst did not even count it as one of his best.

In 2000, The Halle orchestra of Manchester, England comissioned composer Colin Matthews to write a Pluto movement to be played with the piece.
