After a tragic security breach in (or worse, a mole operating inside) the Joint Interagency Task Force, the FBI ask for help from the Miami cops since they weren't part of that compromised group. This job goes to Detectives James Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs. Going undercover as offshore boat racers/outlaw smugglers Sonny Burnett and Rico Cooper, they take on the narcotrafficking network of the mysterious Archangel de Jesus Montoya-Londono and his Cuban Chinese banker and lover Isabella.

Set Problems

  • The budget for the film was originally $120 million. However it has escalated to $180 million due to various problems such as the hurricane Wilma, on set accidents and injuries. This also caused the shooting period to be extended from the original period of 3 months to nearly 10 months.
  • Immediately after filming, Colin Farrell entered into rehab for exhaustion and dependency on prescription medication which were prescribed to him after he suffered a back injury while filming Alexander.
