Mundakayam is a small town in Kottayam district of Kerala, south India. It is the gateway to the High Ranges of Kerala, and is in at the border of Kottayam and Idukki districts. It is from here that the highranges of south Kerala starts. It's one of the most developed towns in Kerala, with beautiful rubber plantations, and amazing greenery. Nearby locations include Panchalimedu, Kuttikkanam, Peermade and Thekkady.



               Mundakayam at a Glance

Mundakayam is the Gateway of the High Range of “Kerala State” (God’s own country), southern part of India, which is located at the eastern border of Kottyam and Idikki Districts and in the middle part of Kottayam–Kumily Road, exactly 55 Kilometers away from Kottayam towards the East and 55 Kilometers away from Kumily ( Border of Kerala State & Tamil Nadu State ) towards the West. The NH-220 ( Kollam -Theni National Highway ) passes through Mundakayam.

Mundakayam is a land of spices and natural Rubber. With a great pride, we could say that the rubber plantations in India had originated from Mundakayam, which was introduced by a European from England named Mr. J.J.Murphy around 1930. He had imported the relevant machineries from Scotland pertained to the Rubber Industry and lit the fire of the “natural rubber boom” in India which had been producing the “rubber sole” for the Foot Wears Industries and exported all over the world since 1930. Many Tea Estates had already opened at the out skirts of Mundakayam by the Europeans Companies during these decades.

Mundakayam had conducted an All India Agricultural & Industrial Exhibition in the year 1967, which was organized by MCC (Mundakayam Civic Center), participated by many reputed organizations and leading Industries all over India.

Once Mundakayam was listed at the highest COL (Cost Of Living) index in India which, was published early 1970 in the Malayala Manorama Daily, one of the leading Indian newspapers in “MALAYALAM” (Regional Language of Kerala). It is the land of excellent climatic conditions with plenty of water, well maintained World Class Resorts, Tourist homes and Recreation Clubs with food and all other facilities.

Indian film industry could never forget this city as their camera eyes had absorbed the panoramic beauty of this blessed land for more than 100 Box office hit movies. There are tremendous possibilities and infrastructures for the Industries with highly sophisticated technologies in spices processing and natural rubber-processing sectors, as the ample derivates are available at your fingertip at the cheapest range through out the year.
