Wendy James (born January 21 1966, somewhere in East Sussex, England (she won't reveal where)). She left home when she was 16 and went off to live in Brighton where she studied drama and English for a year. Then she got disillusioned and left and started singing in a nightclub instead. There she met Nick Christian Sayer, they became lovers and started to write songs together, moved to London and teamed up with some punk friends, Dave Parsons, Tex Axile and Pol Burton, and formed Transvision Vamp. Their first hit, "I Want Your Love" was in 1988.

Wendy became renowned for her comments on:

  • Kylie Minogue: "I think the attitudes she's portraying in her songs are really dangerous"),
  • Smash Hits magazine: "pollution of the mind",
  • the ecology: "Transvision Vamp are responsible human beings who don't see why we should be destroying the planet we live on"),
  • animal rights: "animals are far more logical in the way they live their lives than human beings are").

In 1993 she released her first solo album, containing songs written for her by Elvis Costello, "This ain't the time for my tears". It was not a commercial or critical success, and she was soon dropped by her record company.

In 2004,after 11 years Wendy James resurfaced and released Racine No. 1, on which she claimed she performs all instruments, actually samples mostly, via Pia-K Recordings, her own label (no one else is signed to it though)after no real label would sign her up. It was released twice in england in the space of 6 months, oct 2004 & march 2005.Flopping both times with bad reviews.A world tour was announced, promoted and scrapped due to very poor ticket sales. The album was never released in the US.Following a series of bad reviews Racine has since expanded to a 5-piece group to help cover up wendy's lack of talent, and a second album is due sometime near May 2006,a tour is hoped for but her last gig was a pub in Norwich in june 2005. Song samples have been up on the band site for almost 5 months now. They are not impressive and bode badly for the quality of the new album.Wendy James now resides in New York City but has only promoted her album in the United Kingdom as interviews were refused in america.Just like Matt Goss,Luke Goss and the ex members of Five Star she cannot release her albums in her adopted home (USA) as they are of very poor quality. She is not known in america and does not like to be reminded of her has been status. She would struggle to be regarded as a z list celeb in 2006. She has not appeared on tv since 1993. 2006 will be her 4th flop album in a row and her 8th flop single. She has cancelled 5 world tours since 1991. She has been dropped by Universal,Geffen, and currently has a strained relationship with One Little Indian (distribution only) who cancelled her last single due to no demand. She funds her own albums herself as labels will not waste money on her. She once wrote 6 fake reviews on her website. They praised her album and her. She removed the video for her last single after it was widely ridiculed. Only 110 people are registered on her message board.Only 5 post regularly. She pays for photographs of herself.Fan ones are not posted on the site. There are no downloads on the site.
