His Highness Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah (born 1930) has been the Emir of Kuwait since the passing of Sheikh Jaber on January 15, 2006. Between February 1978 and July 2003, he also served as prime minister of Kuwait, when that role was given to Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jabir Al-Sabah. Sheikh Saad suffers from colon problems, which had led some to speculate he would refuse the crown until a November 2005 declaration by Sheik Sabah that Saad would take the throne.
