Alevi is a branch of Islam, related to Shia Islam but practised mainly in sunnite Turkey, among both Turks and Kurds. Followers of Alevi are called Alevites and number about 15 million. It has also been influenced by Sufism and Nestorianism. Alevites are closely connected to the Bektashi order.
