'Trapani is the name of a city and province in the western part of the Italian island of Sicily.

The ancient name of Trapani was Drepanon, it's placed on the western corner of the Sicily island just out into the Mediterranean Sea in the shape of a sickle.

The city contains about 70,000 inhabitants.

Over the centuries the salt-pans and the salt industries have created a unique environment of great cultural and economic relevance.

This route is called Via del sale (the salt road). On this road there are numerous mills.

Other places of interest in the province include Segesta, Gibellina, Erice, Alcamo, Marsala, Mazara del Vallo and Mozia.
