Why Do Birds Sing? is the Violent Femmes' fifth studio album. It was released in 1991.

This album was one of the popular albums released by the band same as the Violent Femmes album by the time they made like over 100 copies since this album and their self-titled debut album was released.

The single "American Music" peaked at #2 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart. The album peaked at #141 on the Billboard 200 charts, respectively.
