This is a list of Wikipedians who, for various reasons, are unfortunately no longer an integral part of our community.

  • 168... blanked his user page and was presumed to have left on March 7 2004 following disputes arising from the handling of "subvandalism" (see e.g. DNA)
  • Andrew Zito Posted the following on the community portal page:
THis message is posted on the Cathedral Doors like Luthor did I have no time to waste in the wikirituals you play as gatekeepers. Bye The experiment failed I will have no part of this stupid bourgeiosie project as the mechanism is completely faulty and I will not be blamed for nor escalate participation as if I were to act as an individualist I have better one than Wikistupidity Wikifailure Wikirudness and Wikiinsults I further reccomend that it be terminated as disturbingly useless pompous and contentious/argumentative and boycotted.
  • Ark30inf left on October 24 2003 saying "I have found that if you are not here to do battle then nobody will listen to you. Thats not what I am about." He requested de-adminship and the deletion of his user page on 22 February 2004.
  • Bmills. Three months ago (as of May 2004) he wrote on his user page he would be back in three or four weeks, but unfortunately hasn't been seen since.
  • Corvus13 "Fine. I give up. Delete everything I've ever written. There appears to be some personal thing here where if you're not part of the clique, you're not welcome. Goodbye."
  • Daniel Quinlan left without warning on December 16th 2003 after becoming convinced that the NPOV policy does not work.
  • Efghij - last edit Nov 17, 2003.
  • Elian left the English Wikipedia in February 2003 because she "couldn't stand any more the sight of recent changes where RK was labelling people as vandals, trolls, anti-semites, told them 'Wikipedia is no place for you, we don't want you here, go away' and so on. [1]. You also do not participate much any more on the ml Elian, which I regret. I understand you quiting en, I gave up editing during nearly two months, and tremenduously drop my contributions around here for precisely the same reasons. Anthère
  • Isis (February 2003) - got into a legal dispute with another contributor and quit over it
  • Jazz77 - last edit Aug 31, 2003.
  • JHK - last edited 4 Nov 2003; parting words: " Every time I come back, it's the same old stuff, the same old tired people trying to push their agenda...Over the past few days (August 2002)...I feel that my integrity has been questioned by a group of people who refuse to provide even the least amount of information about themselves. If it's not any fun, and the dread of finding out what the next day brings is much more evident than any emotional or intellectual reward, I see no reason to spend my time here.
  • Jnc disappeared on March 26 2004 without saying why.
  • Kosebamse - "I have decided to leave before Wikipediing becomes a burden instead of fun... There are too many good Wikipedians to thank them all personally, so let me just say it's been a lot of fun with you. Idon't think I'll come back. Farewell."
  • LA2 left the Wikipedia project on May 21, 2001 after a disagreement with LMS on whether Wikipedia is a dictionary or not, and whether the distinction between an encyclopedia and a dictionary is even a useful one. He then did nothing for a long while, and finally on October 1, 2001 opened his own shop (in Swedish) at http://susning.nu/ using a slightly different policy. He is now a valued contributor to the international and wikipedia mailing lists.
  • Larry Sanger (March 2002) - The philosopher himself, and the only (formerly) paid Wikipedia employee --was instrumental in guiding the WP to where it is today.
This is his letter of resignation [2] Sam Spade 03:54, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)
  • Lizard King Told me by email he has chosen to leave the wikipedia due to the harassment he recieved over contributing his drawings and sketches. Sam Spade 06:24, 25 Feb 2004 (UTC)
  • Lir - last edit 14 Apr 2004: "What I've realised is that the Wikipedia is overrun by a bunch of morons. I used to care -- now I don't. The idea of a Wiki is a great idea, but the Wikipedia is uberghey."
  • Lypheklub - had his request for adminship rejected because he had not been here long enough, and left shortly thereafter.
  • Manning Bartlett (September 2002) "I have seriously contemplated a permanent departure (and to a degree still am), but many people encouraged me not too, and so I have put my dignity aside for the moment. Interestingly, the issue over which I left has still not been resolved, much to my great disappointment. As for my reasons, I can handle a dispute with a fellow Wikipedian, but this confrontation was with a Bomis employee, from whom I personally feel we should expect a higher standard of conduct." Manning has popped back for a little editing since then, but is largely absent.
  • Notheruser left on 17 August 2003 giving no reason, but stating "I'm taking an indefinite break from Wikipedia."
    • Very sad. Notheruser was a great contributer. Ilyanep 17:00, 25 Jan 2004 (UTC)
  • Optim: Administrator and Bureaucrat. Missed since 19:00 PM (UTC), March 6, 2004. Optim came to Wikipedia in 2003 because he wanted to help with the creation of free educational material. He started 115 new articles and contributed more than 19 photos he took using his digital camera. He decided to leave because he felt fed up with some particular Wikipedians. He wishes to everyone Good Luck and PEACE PROFOUND. Optim 19:08, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
He blocked himself for a period of one year. We'll be very lucky to have him back, whenever he decides its worth it. Like all of us, he has a lot of things to do, and when he tallied up the stresses and satisfactions... The stress-o-meter was a multiple of the satisfaction meter :( Let's try to make this profoundly beneficial contributor feel as welcome and happy as possible, if and when he returns. Sam Spade 04:03, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)
  • Ortolan88 (March 2003), no particular reason given
  • Piotr Wozniak left with no bad feelings, see his homepage for his detailed explanation.
  • Rbs - has not posted since March 11, 2004. No explanation. I hope he is ok, and that he returns soon. Kingturtle 00:41, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • Scipius - last contributed 29 June 2003.
  • Uriyan - the original uri. last edit: 1 Aug 2003.
  • Vancouverguy - On Feb. 20, 2004 , "I think I've officially "disappeared" now. You can call me a "missing Wikipedian" although I might edit anonymously."
  • WojPob - Last edit: June 8, 2003
  • Zoe (May 2003) Zoe got burned out on the typical ratrace--trying to curb the vandal Michael, and believing she was getting little support from the community.-SV. It is very sad to know she left Wikipedia. I know I am one of those who had conflict with her but I have never doubted her great importance here. I only wish she would forgive me, though. -- Taku 03:54, 7 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • º¡º aka BigFatBuddha - Last contribution 4 May 2003. Left comment on Talk page: "I've wandered far afield, and am likely not to return. My illusions were reduced when I found the mailing list, and found how little was thought of me."

See also Wikipedia drop-outs for some more detail on some past "drop-outs" and Wikistress for some suggestions on how to avoid burning out and needing to leave in the first place.
