USS Liberty incident
The USS Liberty was an American intelligence ship. It the first hours of June the 8th, 1967, the fourth day of the Six-Day War, it was engaged by Israeli air and sea forces off El-Arish. Although the USS Liberty was not sunk, the bombs, shells and torpedoes launched by the Israeli forces have led to the death of 34 US sailors and the injuring of 171. The ship suffered extensive damage.
No American commission of inquiry and no Israeli ones have concluded that the attack was conducted because of USS Liberty being confused with an Egyptian vessel, and failures of communications between Israel and the US. Israel has also paid nearly $13.75 in compensations to the families of the victims.
Several books were written on the subject that try to prove that USS Liberty was attacked on purpose. Al extremely factual.
The survivors of the USS Liberty believe that the attack was premeditated, and actively try to assert their claim. They are joined in this position by many representatives of the US intelligence community. They claim in particular that a conspiracy has taken place between the Jewish Lobby in the USA and the government in order to explain the American courts' opposite conclusions.
