Shelby County is a county located in the state of Ohio, United States. As of 2000, the population is 47,910. Its name honors of Isaac Shelby, Governor of Kentucky. Its county seat is Sidney6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,065 km² (411 mi²). 1,060 km² (409 mi²) of it is land and 5 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.43% water.

History
John Hardin was killed by Shawnee Indians in Shelby County in 1792.

There are 18,682 housing units at an average density of 18/km² (46/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.04% White, 1.49% Black or African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.97% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. 0.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 17,636 households out of which 36.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.70% are married couples living together, 9.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.80% are non-families. 22.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
