The 2005 Tennis Masters Cup was held in Shanghai, People's Republic of China between November 13 and November 20, 2005. The Qi Zhong Stadium was specially built for this tournament.

Due to several withdrawals among the top 8 players, the competition was at first criticised for the lack of the main figures; 5 South American players (including 4 from Argentina) got to participate of the cup, and the only United States player, Andre Agassi, left after his first match. Argentine David Nalbandian won the competition in an intense game against #1 Roger Federer, who finally felt the lack of game due to an injury that kept him a month and a half off the courts.

In doubles, French pair Michaël Llodra and Fabrice Santoro won the final against Leander Paes and Nenad Zimonjić.
