Free drinks is a policy which operates in various institutions at various times and in accordance with various traditions. The effect of this policy, however, has more to do with psychology than the abstract nature of the event.

For example a wedding may serve free drinks, or at a scientific meeting, free drinks may be on offer. The phenomenon is note-worthy because of both the human capacity for ritual (cultural basis of society) and greed. It is an anecdotal fact that you can tolerate more alcohol in a free drinks setting than at any other time. Also free drinks can assume an almost mystical status in the minds of every day people, who are accustomed to paying for their drinks.

The experience of ligitamatly encountering a free drinks policy is somthing that most humans cherish, and it is likely that the day will be remembered for the rest of their lives, assuming an almost legendary status.

Once established in a suitable suround the cry is thus... "I wan't to drink so much I can see through time". Often, however, the reality of the situation is more bleak, and the repercussions of humilating oneself in front of ones peers are long lasting.

As human socity developes into its matuity, it is likely that such displays of extravigance and excess will receed into distant memory, when humans were mearly children, learning how to play together.
