Navarre (Basque Nafarroa, Spanish Navarra) is an autonomous community of Spain. Capital is Pamplona (Basque Iruña).

There was once a kingdom of Navarre spawning to both sides of the Pyrenees, that was split between France and Spain in the 16th century. The part of Navarre on the French side is called Basse Navarre (Basque Nafarroa Beherea).

The Kingdom of Navarre, originally called Pamplona, arose circa 824 when Iñigo Arista led a revolt against the Franks. The last king of Navarre, Henry III (reigned 1572-1610), succeeded to the throne of France as Henry IV in 1589.
