Itzcoatl was the leader of the Tenochcas or Aztec from 1428 to 1440. He began the building of the great city of Tenochtitlan. Temples, roads and a causeway were built. Itzacoatl established the religious and governmental hierarchy that was assumed by Moctezuma I upon his death in 1440.
