Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother (4 August 1900 - 30 March 2002), full name, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, was the mother of Queen Elizabeth II and member of Britain's Royal family.
Born in 1900, she was the ninth of the ten children of Lord and Lady Glamis. Born and brought up a 'commoner', she married the second son of George VI in 1923, the pair becoming Duke and Duchess of York. Her husband became King George VI in 1937 and died in 1952, at which point she became known as Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.
In her later years, she became known for her longevity and became the oldest member of any known royal family in the world. She died peacefully in her sleep at 3:15pm (GMT), with The Queen at her bedside, on the 30th March 2002, aged 101.
