I'm a graduate student in Neuroscience at UCSF. Our lab studies electrical and metabolic interactions in the vertebrate outer retina. I'm particularly interested in color vision, gap junctions, and local, low-level neural circuitry.

Also a classical music and opera fan, particularly somewhat knowledgeable on Prokofiev, Dvorak, Mozart Operas, Orchestration and other general topics.

In popular music, fan of some more obscure groups like The Kinks, Captain Beefheart, Can, as well as a lot of classic rock and some modern stuff.

Big on Russian lit, especially Ivan Turgenev, Nikolai Gogol, and Mikhail Bulgakov. Also like Classics, and in poetry know some Shakespeare, Auden, Rubaiyat.

Sort of a movie buff. Some favorite directors: Sam Raimi, Terry Gilliam, Jan Svankmajer, Christopher Guest, Coen Brothers, Stanley Kubrick, Sergei Eisenstein, David Lynch, Alfred Hitchcock, Akira Kurosawa, Satoshi Kon, and Ang Lee.
