UNSCDF Marine Corps
The UNSCDF Marine Corps serves as a versatile combat element, and is adapted to a wide variety of combat operations. The Marine Corps was initially composed of infantry combat forces serving aboard naval vessels, responsible for security of the ship, its captain and officers, offensive and defensive combat during boarding actions, by acting as sharpshooters, and carrying out amphibious assaults. The Marines are the main ground force compentent of the UNSC.
Mission of the Marine Corps
The Marine Corps serves as a versatile combat element, and is adapted to a wide variety of combat operations. The Marine Corps was initially composed of infantry combat forces serving aboard naval vessels, responsible for security of the ship, its captain and officers, offensive and defensive combat during boarding actions, by acting as sharpshooters, and carrying out amphibious assaults. The Marines fully developed and used the tactics of amphibious assault in World War II, most notably in the Pacific Island Campaign.
Since its creation in 2170, the Corps' role has expanded significantly. The Marines have a unique mission statement, and, alone among the branches of the U.N.S.C. armed forces, "shall, at any time, be liable to do duty in the forts and garrisons of the United Nations, on the seacoast, or any other duty on shore, as the President, at his discretion, shall direct." Because of this, the Marine Corps is referred to as "The President's Own." In this special capacity, charged with carrying out duties given to them directly by the President of the United Nations, the Marine Corps serves as an all-purpose, fast-response task force, capable of quick action in areas requiring emergency intervention.
The Marines also maintain an operational and training culture dedicated to emphasizing the infantry combat abilities of every Marine. All Marines receive training first and foremost as basic riflemen, and thus the Marine Corps at heart functions culturally as an infantry corps. The Marine Corps is famous for the saying "Every Marine a rifleman."[1]
Marine tactics and doctrine emphasize aggressiveness and the offensive. The Marines have been central in developing groundbreaking tactics for modern amphibious assault and maneuver warfare and they can be credited with the development of dropship insertion doctrine.
The amphibious assault is the most complex military maneuver in all of warfare. The doctrines that the UNSCDF Marines developed for this maneuver are complex in their details. These doctrines acknowledge the complexity of the maneuver and they rely on the twin spears of instant obedience to given orders, and flexibility in execution. The initiative of individuals in taking the fight to the enemy is valued and exemplified. This initiative displayed by individual leaders is crucial to the success of any amphibious assault.
The maneuver warfare doctrine upon which the Corps is organized and the nature of the operations of which the Corps has traditionally been a part causes it to place a premium on decentralized decision-making and the individual abilities of leaders at all levels. This is accomplished through the use of commander's intent as the guiding principle for leaders. Commander's intent specifies the end state the commander wants achieved and other certain parameters he may lay out. This allows the lowest possible tactical units to determine how they wish to execute their mission to fulfill this intent. As a result, a large degree of initiative and autonomy is expected of junior Marines, particularly the NCOs (Corporals and Sergeants) as compared to many other military organizations. The Marine Corps pushes authority and responsibility downward to a greater degree than the other services.

History
Creation The UNSC Armed Forces were created after the Jovian Moons Campaigns and the Rain Forest Wars. When it was created they needed a fast reaction force to assist the Army and Navy. Based on the old Marine Corps of Earth's militaries. The UNSCDF Marine Corps were the first service to be created.
Every nation within the UN piled their forces into the UNSC Military. The Marines alone had over 450,500,000 troops within the first month. The first Commandant was Gen. John Williamsonn; the commander of the U.S. Marine Corps 34th Infantry Division.

Marine Units
- Marine Infantry:
The standard trooper seen in any engagement. The Marine Infantryman is used in a variety of environments and uses specialized training and equipment for it.
- Marine Airborne Infantry:
These Marines are one of the most elite units of the UNSCDF Marine Corps. They launch from a variety of craft. From the Pelican, to the Albatross, even to a Marathon-class Destroyer. Units from the old militaries of Earth include the 101st Airborne Division and the 82nd Airborne Division are still used.
- Marine R.R.F. [Rapid Reaction Force] Infantry "Mobile Infantry":
These handful of Marines are the quick go-to force for operations that need to be started in under 2 to 5 hours. 30 Brigades of R.R.F. troopers are ready at any time and 10 are on reserve status. The R.R.F. troopers gear is very light, using Paratrooper rifles and carbines and SMG's.
- Marine Infantry Squadrons:
The Infantry Squadron's are elite units of the Marine Infantry. There a mix between Regular Troops and SpecOps troopers. A squadron is comprised of 31 Marines, 16 Pilots, and 10 Combat Staff.
- Marine Force Recon:
The Marine Force Recon is the main Special Operations Force of the United Nations Space Command Defense Force. Used as troops to soften up defenses before invasions, rescue POW's, and missions other units cant or wont do. Most or all of the Force Recon's missions are so classified, even the President doesn't even know or will ever know about them.
- Orbital Drop Shock Trooper's O.D.S.T.:
The Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, or "ODST", are an elite special operations unit within the UNSCDF Marines. Their role on the battlefield is usually described as that of an aggressive shock infantry raid force. The O.D.S.T. is a mix of Force Recon and Airborne Infantry put together. They also work together on a number of occasions too. And like the Force Recon, there missions are very classified.
- Marine Rangers:
The Marine Rangers are is a flexible, highly trained and rapidly deployable light infantry force with specialized skills that enables it to be employed against a variety of conventional and special operations targets. The Rangers specialize in Airborne, Air Assault, light-infantry and Direct Action operations, conducting raids, infiltration and exfiltration by air, land or sea, airfield seizure, recovery of personnel and special equipment, and support of Marine Infantry and SpecOps forces.
There missions are very very similar to the Squadron's, Force Recon's, and O.D.S.T.'s. Though there missions aren't as secretive or covert as the rest. Most aren't kept secret.
- D.I.R.T. Deep Insertion Recon Troopers:
These Marines are some of the most elite in the entire UNSCDF. Carrying out missions from Medium-sized Troop Ships and inserted from Pelican and Hornet Dropships. As their name implies, they are inserted deep behind enemy lines, carrying light equipment and weapons. But sometimes there used in conjunction with all Marine units, especially the Marine Rangers.

The standard UNSC Marine is equipped with an MA5B assault rifle, with M6D pistol as a sidearm. They may also arm themselves with the M90 shotgun for fighting in close quarters. As of Halo 2, the Marines are given a BR55 rifle, with the M6C magnum as a sidearm. In addition, the Marines may arm themselves with the new M7 Submachine gun or the M90 shotgun. Marines from both games are also armed with the venerable M9 HE-DP fragmentation grenade.
Specialty weapons from both games include the S2 AM sniper rifle and either the M19 SSM (SPNKr) rocket launcher or the M41 SSR MAV/AW rocket launcher.
In Halo, Marines are seen with a green tactical display over one eye, attached to the helmet. Text can be seen scrolling across it, highlighting the use of the screen as an instant tactical/recording display. In Halo 2, the screen is gone, but it is likely that the text is now on the helmet's visor.
The Marines are known to use vehicles often. These are mainly Warthog light reconnaissance vehicles, Scorpion tanks, and Pelican transports, which act as landing craft and assault vehicles.
Notable Marines include Sergeant Avery Johnson, Private Chips Dubbo, Sergeant Banks and Corporal Perez.
