unnecesary heading

HI, I see you removed the "Subcategories and articles" header in Category:Mathematics. I know it's ugly, but it's needed to keep the "Subcategories and articles" link working (although it's broken at the moment, because of unknown reasons.) I'd personally see the "Subcategories and articles" link and header gone, but you might want to discuss this with the editors of Template:Eight_portals_links first. Cheers, --R.Koot 01:08, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The best solution would be if the existing "Subcategories" header was preceded by
<a name="subcategries"/>
but I think this would require a change in MediaWiki. --R.Koot 01:25, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sir, why do you insist on blocking me when I’m doing everyone a service by diverting their attention to the talented journalist SEE-ROOS FARIVAR, rather than the mundane and possibly villainous article they requested to see? I believe our society is infected by a number of diseases, including hair, terrorism, vandalism and syphilis. The only cure for these deeply rooted issues is to divert attention from them to something better. To something positive! Cyrus Farivar is an American hero and deserves the villainous attention these other subjects were going to get. So, my friend, if that makes me a vandal, then I don’t want to be the Holy Roman Empire. Good day, Sir! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 21:44, August 7, 2005 (talkcontribs) 69.93.209.68

Terrorism article snafu / vandal?

Someone just deleted a good-sized section of the Terrorism article, giving no reason -- the "Terrorism and immigration in Europe" section -- he calls himself Finnishing and I can't find any pages here for that, and so I don't know how to contact him to discuss.

I noticed you recently did a cleanup on the page. So pls advise what to do in this instance?

--Kessler 20:20, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wow! That's some service... Thanks very much.
So you must already have known this Finnishing guy pretty well... There must be a killfile routine built in here somewhere for blocking these automatically: I'll root around in the policy stuff to find out -- I'm new.
Next time it happens I'll try a revert myself, then -- first having tried to reach the poster / troll in person, of course -- I suppose that's how it's done... Enjoy your Monday.

Vandalism claim misplaced

You and CryptoDerk's (or his Java client's) claim that my additions of Rhapsody Playlists to musician's sites is vandalism, does not disobey any of the rules that I can see and therefore is not vandalism.

If I rubbed you that it was self promotion, I was merely stating that I have enough popularity already and that I would mention wikipedia's mistreatment in my blog which on a certain month got about 113,000 hits and is the most popular according to google for rhapsody playlists. And don't get the wise idea that people visitng your discussion page are going to contribute to my hits, nice try, I'm just showing you where I stand and that I don't really care about the promotion claims because I've done well without spreading the word much. And besides I haven't made a dime off my site, I just like to share with others good/bad stuff that I've found out, for instance I have a reference to the cheapest and best mp3 player I've found (probably from china, but I use mine for listening to podcasts), I'm not promoting K-Mart with a line of new clothes or anything..

My interest is to add playlists that contain all the content from a particular musician on Rhapsody, for that musician on wikipedia.

Albeit, Rhapsody is a commercial service it does offer 30 second clips of every song included in the playlist to those who aren't paying customers. Other drawbacks of Rhapsody include that it only runs on Windows and not the Mac (Apple made their iPod's incapable of playing Rhapsody's DRMs on iPod, so don't blame Real). However, I prefer it because its the most complete legal online music collection, containing complete albums from musicians and not a collection of songs (being the old fogey I am, I think something is lost when you are listening just to songs). And it isn't exactly music history, but there is a huge collection of classical music. It's just that wikipedia lacks the multi-sensory experience it will not have through contributions, so I offer references for people who wish to complete the feeling. You read about Bryan Ferry, you listen to Bryan Ferry, you read about Joe Jackson, you listen to Joe Jackson, see?

Also, if wikipedia offered the capability of uploading files with the "rpl" extension, I wouldn't have to host them on my site. But if you see me going around adding playlists to a bunch of musicians, this is only because it doesn't take me long to create the playlists, but I've bought CD's from most of the musicians I had playlists to, so this isn't so much a mindless addition of stuff to musicians sites.. I know that you are using CryptoDerk's javaclient to do Regular Expression matches and other such things to trace edits to pages and use this application to label people as vandals without discerning the changes to the pages, this is another one of my gripes, but if you didn't have so much vandalism you wouldn't need these applications, I know, in my bio I describe a suggestion I have for wikipedia about handling reverts that may offer an incremental way of managing the pages when changes are made by presenting a random sampling of the users of wikipedia to decide whether a edit is needed or not, causing a revert, allowing users of wikipedia to make the decision about a revert and not a admin who may not really care, or have the time. --Rofthorax 18:43, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The Protest Warrior article

I'm sorry about the attempts by some of my fellow Protest Warriors to remove criticism of the organization from the article. There are several of us who are still angry about the way RocknRev (known as Grazon here) persisted in adding insults to the article, and a lot of them just don't get how Wikipedia works. I'll try to call them off, but I can't guarantee any ability to keep anyone from messing with it again. Rogue 9 01:20, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Grazon is vandalizing the Protest Warrior article again, along with the article on Kfir Alfia. The changes have been reverted, but the amount of vandalism he committed on Kfir's page is astounding; he performed 36 separate edits in the space of 23 minutes. Rogue 9 00:58, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Grazon already knows. He can't fail to realize that changing the articles to have a mocking tone concerning their subjects is grossly POV. He just doesn't care. Rogue 9 02:56, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I spend some time sourcing and neautralisig the Brandt article. I only just noticed that it was previously deleted without any vote and the whole thing seems perculiar.

The originaor SLmVirgin deleting it herself. Wcr whatever guy has tried to blank the page suggesting that he though there was some kind of agreement to "stop provoking". Quoting Jimmy Whatshisname also. What the hell is going on - do you have any clue?

This guy is 100% notable. 60,000 "daniel brandt" results [1]. The primiry source for much of the critique of the internet's largest player. Writes articles for online journals. Political Activism. Etc etc.

It is all very fishy.

Hi, There's been some tag-team blanking of this page again, I left a note at WP:ANI and protected it again. Not sure what to do except leave it protected for a while and then open it up again, thoughts? Rx StrangeLove 22:56, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Since it was unprotected thepage has been blanked 5 times in an hour. Brandt has askedon his wikipedia watch site "Who will rid me of this meddlesome article?" [2].

As a result, he and his freinds are vandalising it systematically. What to do?

jucifer 22:48, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I got your message, glad to help out. They are probably hovering over it waiting for it to be unprotected. The amount of time you mentioned is probably right. Unless someone else steps in I'll open it back up then. Let me know if you have any other thoughts on the time frame, that's a valid email address on my page if you'd rather keep when it's going to be unprotected between us for now. I agree with your opinion about protection by the way so I have no problem with taking it off sooner rather than later to see what happens. It does appear that they will be pretty persistent, Slim Virgin and/or Jimbo may have to decide this ultimately. Rx StrangeLove 00:39, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciate the vote you gave to keep the article "Contact Consequences". It is intended to examine the consequences of alien contact upon society, the common man, etc., depicts both what happens in a positive alien contact, what happens in a negative alien contact, what people would do and the reasons for what they would do IF there is alien contact. Back-up Plan

If the article "Contact Consequences" IS deleted, can you write a article that depicts what this article is intended to do ?Martial Law 02:15, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

One other reason I had created the article is that I travel the US as, among other things, as a graphics artist. I do NOT sketch people, due to the obscenity debates going on, and I've ran into people who has stated that IF there is alien contact, alien life is found, they may revolt. Some will do so due to religious reasons, some will do so AS vengeance for the implementation of the Robertson Panel's recomendation to make all who have had UFO/Alien encounters look like kooks, idiots, and fools, while some will only cause trouble, just like what happened when the US got hit by Katrina, what is going on in Europe right now. Some of those that are voting for deletion should read the article Robertson Panel, as well as other related articles. Again, appreciate your vote, honesty. In this day and age, I do'nt see that often.Martial Law 05:54, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Whoever came up with the idea to ridicule people who has had a UFO/Alien experience should

wonder what'll happen IF alien life IS found, aliens find "us".Martial Law 05:57, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciate the still ongoing clean-up. If the alien contact is hostile, the people just may revolt, for different reasons. some are religious reasons, some are out of the search for vindication and veangence, because justice is a govt. function, and the Robertson Panel was set up by the govt.to make people who have had these experiences look like kooks and fools, idiots.Again, appreciate your vote, honesty.Martial Law 06:18, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • While I was in the SW US, people had told me flat out that IF the govt. does'nt stop the

ridicule of people who had these encounters with UFOs/Aliens,that IF alien life IS found, aliens find "us", they will rebel to vindicate themselves and/or seek revenge for the govt. sanctioned, approved campaign of ridicule, and prove that the govt. is collaborating with hostile aliens and prove that these aliens want people to shut the (Expletive) up,accept alien dominion. This is not vandalisim, just stating what people have told me. Can this sort of statement be used in the article or its reincarnated form ? I am referring to how these people will react to the Robertson Panel's recomendations IF alien contact takes place. Has anyone considered this matter when the Robertson Panel initiated the still ongoing campaign to ridicule people in 1952 ? SOME of these people may belong to "private Armies"Martial Law 01:58, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I was also in the Roswell International UFO Museum when a elderly gent had told me how he was treatred by the US Army(NO USAF @ the time, so do'nt blame this service), how a cretain nurse REALLY got "transferred". He indicated that IF the govt. does NOT quit their ill treatment of people and apologise for the ill treatment of people who has had UFO/Alien encounters, thatIF there is alien contact, the people just may revolt. IF you have seen a UFO/Had a alien encounter, will you report it ? See the article Robertson Panel. By the way, I really appreciate the assisstance. Martial Law 22:16, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Article got deleted. Now what ?Martial Law 00:20, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Contact Consequences

I am entirely in favor of the article being brought back if it can be totally rewritten into an article that fits within the writing guidelines however I was wondering what the reasoning was behind summarily undeleting and moving to userspace an article that has gone through AFD and has been deleted as such especially since (I may be wrong on this) I believe there is a policy against deleted articles. This is out of my own curiosity mind you and I personally hope that this article gets rewritten and put back since it seemed like a workable article. I just had to do my job and close the AFD as the consensus was though :|. JtkieferT | C | @ ---- 00:46, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know the letter of the rule off the top of my head if a rule specificially involving this even exists however I think that even if there is one no matter what the letter of it is the spirit is more important and I think moving to user space to rewrite as a proper article is perfectly within the spirit of the rules. JtkieferT | C | @ ---- 00:58, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, one of the major problems that unfortunately seems to be on the rise is that people are sticking too much to the letter of the guidelines and are ignoring the spirit of them. JtkieferT | C | @ ---- 01:06, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Some of this material relating to alien contact is from one of Linda Moulton Howe's books, written before there was Wikipedia, the Internet was a sketchy affair at the time.Martial Law 20:40, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

How's the article looking to you, and how do I dump those box-like constructs ?Martial Law 21:21, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Can some pixes, such as the UN Gen. Assembly bldg., some UFO pixes, a pix of a alien be added w/ out messeing up the article ? After all, that is what people will see when aliens make contact with this planet. Martial Law 21:36, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I was referring to some real UFO pixes, and to the UN building, so there will be no confusion, so no one will think its another Hollywood gimmick, like ID-4 or Mars Attacks.Martial Law 22:00, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Glitch

Found a source concearning the Contact Consequences article. It is on Jeff Rense's Homepage . The article is in a right hand column there, and it states this:From the Official Firefighter's Manual, Chapter 13: In case of UFOs.... A glitch will NOT allow this to be placed. This is a Internet source.Martial Law 01:19, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Is this site undergoing a meltdown ? Hope not. Martial Law 01:20, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I was placing it AS a source when the glitch hit.Martial Law 01:22, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Found a USMC source. It is the USMC training manual for the new "boots". In this is General Order 9, USMC protocol intended to deal with unforseen situations. Recent USMC Boot Camp Manuals have this in it - along with a UFO. Either the Marine is placing a call to the Base Ops, or a bunch of Marines is getting into positions to deal with the UFO. These are the two depictions I've seen considering Gen. Order 9, and one former Marine had stated that the UFO pix is the govt.'s way of telling "us" something.Martial Law 02:25, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Got good news, bad news. Good news about alien contact material. Bad news, there's about 25M sources regarding alien contact. Did a Google Search:Alien Contact and found this.Martial Law 23:40, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Does this article look good to you, for reinstatement ?Martial Law 03:37, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As stated, found a few more, yeah, nearly 25M more sources.

Should I incl. "historical alien contact" data, such as when the Spanish destroyed the Aztec and Incan Empires(hostile contact example in historical perspective), when the English, others have made contact with the Native Americans(friendly contact in the historical perspective, later turned sour) ? These historical examples of contact by two vastly different cultures can be seen AS "alien contact". Martial Law 03:42, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

So far, all concearns are how the religious people will react to alien contact. I've seen some religious themed movies in which The Rapture is featured, hostile aliens and/or demons are taking over the planet as part of Biblical Prophecy. Any other evidence that should be examined ?Martial Law 21:53, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

One thing that may be of concearn is media coverage of alien contact. Had to state that martial law may cause coverage to be limited, due to possible rebellions and general chaos that something like this will likely cause.Martial Law 23:06, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalisim(?) Found

Found some strange markings on the UFO article, on the External link: Jeff Rense's homepage. The appearant vandalisim is in a red coloring. See sample provided.Martial Law

It is on this site: http://www.rense.com/ [3]IF:NLO.

I am NOT committing vandalisim myself, only providing physical evidence. I'll check the history section.Martial Law 05:08, 23 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Can.................

Can the article Contact Consequences be merged with the related articles, and still show WHAT will or could take place in the event of alien contact, such as resulting rebellions due to old protocol such as the Robertson Panel and the Brookings Report, what will happen in the different nations when there is alien contact, to the UN,etc. if there is alien contact ?Martial Law 22:08, 23 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Some sources are or were in the military(I'm a military brat) who may have had access to classified material. Others are pre-Wikipedia,even pre-Internet. I am close to a Command Class military installation @ this time. Some have been on both Jeff Rense's Radio show and on Coast To Coast AM. How do you list sources that are of a nature that can lead to Wikipedia's overhaul by the military, government ? A Sgt. Stone was court-martialed for allegedly revealing UFO related info. He was posted to either FT.Bliss or to the White Sands Missile Range when this happened.Martial Law 22:24, 23 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Where can the material relating to the effects of alien contact be safely placed, such as any resultant rebellions, how the different nations will respond to alien contact ? Some of the sources are of a nature that may get Wikipedia in a lot of trouble, since some of them may be from classified sources. How is this dealt with ?Martial Law 02:32, 25 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, I would be grateful for your assistance in countering the systematic vandalism of a admin on the List of Dictators page. An administrator is blanking the page every few hours, without any AfD or anything. Yours,

jucifer 23:13, 23 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I told 12 people because I thought it would be of interest to them. I didn't realise that was against a policy and I apologize. I did it because based on what User:172 was saying (and his previous actions elsewhere)I could see that I was going to get nowhere, and he would continue to blank the page. I thought some "outside" discussion might bring him to heel - and force him to be reasonable. Is there another way?

Also I feel that for List of dictators to be a redirect is simply an underhand way of deleting an article without discussion or AfD, and is an abuse of the "redirect" concept.

User:Does Not Trust Jimbo

To be honest, I don't care about the template much either way, I recreated it because it was inappropriately speedied by Tony Sidaway instead of being sent to WP:TFD. I believe this one was part of the "attack template" package on tfd a week or so ago, so we're all clear now. Karmafist 19:23, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Me as well. Even on something that may be potentially offensive (I think Jimbo's a good guy, but not infallible), not following proper procedure is far more destructive than any offensiveness a thing on here might have. I say that because if people preemptively IAR, it causes a slippery slope and then they IAR on everything, causing edit wars, wheel wars, massive incivility and shouting matches, as recently see at Kelly Martin's RFC. It's my belief that the procedures of this place are largely broken because they're fragile enough to be circumvented so often, causing what I said above, but we might as well defend what we have left while the community slowly realizes that things as usual aren't working. Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Until the situation becomes more clear, I believe the group should still have a place in the Wikipedia namespace. Sincerely, Tfine80 00:18, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chadbryant strikes again

This did not take long. Please go to Rec.sport.pro-wrestling. You will see that User: Chadbryant has deleted relevant information on the main page with his last edit. He hates anything to do with the South, so he deleted mention of the Tennessee-based wrestling organization, TNA. He also warned of a personal attack on the talk page by User: TruthCrusader when there was none. Please document this along with the arena deletions he's made and take the appropriate action. Thank you. WillC 02:16, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is no "dispute" as much as there is a case of a misguided editor who needs to be put in check.. He was asked not to insert incorrect information into the article for rec.sport.pro-wrestling, and his recent edit history showed large amounts of edits to add non-notable and non-encyclopedic (i.e. style, grammer, punctuation, etc.) content, mostly on articles for sporting venues. Two other admins saw fit to block him for his behaviour and conduct in response to having his edits questioned and/or fixed. - Chadbryant 02:27, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I laugh at Chadbryant spelling GRAMMAR wrong and urge him to find instances where my grammar, spelling, or punctuation was wrong. Furthermore, considering that we are editing sites related to professional wrestling, the definition of encyclopedic is open to interpretation. My goal is to document those arenas who have held major wrestling ppvs, especially repeat venues, as it has become an honor and tradition to host them. WillC 02:35, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
