The Rocks Push was the name for a predominantly left-wing intellectual sub-culture centred on the Rocks area of Sydney. This lies near the southern tower of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The Push was noted for consumption of alcohol, jazz music, sexual licentiousness and a pub culture based on the pubs in the rocks area. The movement attracted a number of artists and poets Joshua Smith, William Dobell I think and the Scottish born professor of Philosophy at Sydney University Anderson was an important figure to the Push (I am not sure whether he as actually part of it himself). Anderson was left wing philospher with a strong following in Sydney and an international reputation although apparently his actual written output was quite small.

Nowadays the Rocks area is quite genteel and expensive area frequented largely be visitors and foreign tourists.
