User talk:ALargeElk
If I have the willpower, I will be mostly taking a break from Wikipedia until at least the end of June. If you see me around between 09.00 UTC and 16.00 UTC on weekdays before July 1st, you are encouraged to tell me to get back to work.

Welcome
Welcome! - UtherSRG 12:49, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks! I've deleted your welcome message just to tidy up a bit (and because I don't need any more encouragement to spend time wikying when I should be working! --ALargeElk 15:43, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Understood! *grins* You can always find it in the page history. - UtherSRG 15:47, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Thanks for your note on the new user log. Glad to have you here. Careful... you sound like you're well on your way to becoming a wikiholic like me. ;-) Isomorphic 17:04, 31 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Sorry, I linked in the wrong area!
Sorry I put links to serial killers in the wrong place, I am reverting this immediately. I only saw now, that external links have a special area. Sorry again, eliZZZa
- No problem - easily done. The beauty of Wikipedia is that someone will always put things right when you make a mistake.--ALargeElk 12:08, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I am 03webberg who you told that he shouldn't add 'this is good' to pages. I'm sorry, and won't do it again. Please reply.
- No problem - we all live and learn.--ALargeElk 12:08, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Hey thanks! That one looks like a lot of fun - so much to do!!! Mark Richards 18:04, 4 May 2004 (UTC)
Speedy Deletions
In the future, when tagging a page for speedy deletion, please simply add {{msg:delete}} rather than replacing the content with this tag. This allows the deletion log to show something meaninfgul. Thanks for your concern in this regard, Fennec 15:30, May 5, 2004 (UTC)
- Ahh. If the anon blanked it, no big deal. Thanks for marking it, anyway. :) - Fennec 15:37, May 5, 2004 (UTC)
London Congestion Charge
It happens quite often, so don't worry about it. In fact most people don't even check the featured article page first, so you're ahead of them! By the way, another place to look is the top of the talk page of an article, some (most/all?) have a message saying they're featured if that's the case. fabiform | talk 16:19, 12 May 2004 (UTC)
- You can also check the what links to the article and see if Wikipedia:Featured articles is on the list. That's what I do, anyway. Fredrik 16:24, 12 May 2004 (UTC)
ATR aircraft
Hi! You asked why I don't do page title changes for the ATR articles. The reason is that I work only on pictures (about seven hundred articles illustrated so far) but sometimes, along the way, I spot a text error and correct it. I have no idea how to do a redirects or page title changes or anything like that, picture work takes up all my time on WP. Best Wishes, Adrian,
Adrian Pingstone 16:51, 14 May 2004 (UTC)
LargeElk, that's fine. If you can make an article out of it, that's good. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't vandalism. Fuzheado 14:04, 16 May 2004 (UTC)
Minor but time consuming admin tasks carried out
Sorted out about 30 double redirects at Trans-Siberian railway:What links here
- And I rolled some of them back. What do you think rederirects are for? For you to come and edit them? Mikkalai 18:16, 14 May 2004 (UTC)
- Not to say that you did it in a wrong way. Compare: First Transcontinental Railroad, Central Pacific Railroad and many other: "Railroad" is a part of the name, hence must be capitalized. Mikkalai 20:25, 14 May 2004 (UTC)
Welcoming
Hey there. Welcome to the welcoming comittee ;-) I have two suggestions for your welcome message. First, while a lot of people like using msg:opentask, some (including me) think it's not that useful, and might suggest that we're assigning work. It's up to you whether you want to use it, of course. Also, I'd suggest a link to the Wikipedia:Tutorial. Thanks for joining, and happy editing, Isomorphic 16:33, 19 May 2004 (UTC)
DSDM move
Hi ALargeElk, and thanks for the welcome. Sorry for not doing the DSDM properly, I'd look for a move link but must have missed it. What can I do now? I can't do the move because my new page already exists. I'm guessing I need to get the new page deleted and then do the move properly. What do you think? Thanks, Simonbooth
Thanks
Hi! Thanks for the welcome -- though I really need to spend less time on wikipedia, and more time on my exams :). Meb 10:40, 21 May 2004 (UTC)
Hi, Large Elk. Thanks a lot for the welcome message - really made me feel at home. (And, it feels good to know someone is actually paying attention to those quantum field theory edits :)==) Any idea how I can sort of 'pay this forward' ? amar 09:10, Jun 11, 2004 (UTC)
Arbitration request re: Mr-Natural-Health
I've put in an arbitration request re: Mr-Natural-Health. You may or may not wish to add to it. - David Gerard 11:06, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)
blocked
Done. I think it's a proxy, so I don't want to block it for longer:

Compliments and Questions
ALargeElk, I like your attitude and approach here -- I've seen you comment several places, and I'd say you have exactly the outlook needed to remain sane at Wikipedia (....well, "remain at Wikipedia"....one has to doubt any of us are truly sane). :-) At any rate, I thought I'd say so since we're not good enough around here at actually telling each other when we see good things happening. I wonder if you'd mind me asking you three questions, and will type them in under the assumption you won't. 1) Forgive me, I took a brief vacation - have you been made an administrator yet? 2) Assuming the answer to 1 is "No", do you have any interest in becoming an administrator? 3) Assuming the answer to 2 is "Yes", would you object to my nominating you in two weeks, when you will have spent roughly 3 months here (by my count) and presumably have approx. 1000 edits, which are good round numbers people usually like to see when supporting a nomination? I don't want to force anyone into the role of admin, but I think you have the right perspective for it. If you're already an admin, I can simply apologize that I was not paying attention at the right time to support the nomination. Keep up the fine work, Jwrosenzweig 17:33, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- As someone who was made an admin with roughly 350 edits to my name and 8 weeks' experience (ah, the good old days), I think I'm less sensitive than I should be to the current climate. :-) I will respect your wishes and leave a nomination until at least the 1st of July -- good luck focusing on article production. :-) I find an easy way of doing so is to adopt a little list somewhere and flesh it out -- for example, the list of authors and titles at medieval literature was quite red a while ago, and I've semi-consistently worked at writing articles for the red links when I have nothing else to do. I offer it as my only advice for how to keep aimed at writing articles -- without a list focusing me, I too often find myself back at RC, jumping on vandalism and getting irritated by edit wars. :-) Good luck, and expect a note from me that first week of July telling you I've nominated you -- Jwrosenzweig 16:00, 10 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Speedy deletion
Hi Texture. I'm no fan of nonsense, but I wonder from the deletion log whether you've been a bit quick in one of your deletions. 29a seems to be a real group - see [1]. It's no big deal - I'm not going to bother listing it on votes for undeletion. I just wondered what your reason was for getting rid of it. (Obviously, you've seen the whole article and I've only seen the bit that got onto the deletion log). -- ALargeElk | Talk 16:52, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- It appeared to be unsupported nonsense (not the name of the group, but the claim). Here is the content for you to evaluate for yourself. If you believe is isn't nonsense I have no objection to listing it for undeletion. (Always better to have more people review a questionable deletion.):
- Name of a virus group that created the first [virus] for mobile phones using the [Symbian] [OS]. They are also suposed to have written the first viruses for [.NET] and [Win64].

Ramsgate Flat Earth Society
Regards Ramsgate Flat Earth Soc. page: No problem with your vote for deletion, except that you should offer proof it is a fantasy construct. Although I have very many other possible subjects to offer wikipedia, I do not hold that it should exclude fantasy, given some content like Star trek articles I have noted. If Fiction/Faction is not a legitimate subject here may I propose a request for some repository for such items under the heading of WikiNonsence for those of us that get our inspiration from such forms of research? Faedra 12:38, 16 Jun 2004 (UTC) All the best.
I guess the difficulty is in that I have Wikified the item, as if it stood alone it would not register in any linked pages...?
Does the Wikifairy really exist?
Thanks for your comments
Regards, Burschik.
I have a slight problem with the article on safflower. I created it, and the link on the "my contributions" page works, but links in other articles still have the edit action appended, for some reason. Maybe you know how to fix that, or whom to ask. - Burschik
Thanks for the welcome
Thanks for that. Actually I am a long-term wikipedian using this sock puppet in a context where I don't want to get into a heated debate under my "real" name. I know this seems perhaps cowardly but it works for me and I hate it where disputes can boil up in to users following each other round in revert wars etc. Hence this - an attempt to help calmly with the article in question but with the option of it not connecting with my other work here.
Thanks again, --Fanger 12:49, 18 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- And thanks for those helpful comments just now. --Fanger 13:23, 18 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Thank you for the help.
Thanks for taking the time to help me out around here. Can you tell me how to mark my own page for deletion? I really don't want to earn any enemies around here, it is such an amazing place. I've been addicted to correcting typos for days now. :)
Update: OK, I think I figured out how to do it. Let me know if it is listed right.
Thanks
Thanks for the merge advice with Beta Israel, I think it's fairly well updated and redirected.
