Rise of Endymion is a sci-fi novel which treats Christ as a disiple of the Void-Which-Binds. He literally gave his flesh to eat, and blood to drink, to pass on the 'virus," so others may gain the empathic powers the Void provides. But his disciples went insane, unable to control or share their feeelings, so they controlled it through strict religious practices.
