Razor (scooter)
RazorUSA is a company based in Cerritos, California that is known for manufacturing kick scooters. It was founded in June 2000 by Carlton Calvin. RazorUSA owns the Razor trademark worldwide. The Razor scooter was originally developed as a transportation mechanism for a Taiwanese factory. An official from the Sharper Image Japan paid a routine visit to the factory and recognized the immediate potential of the Razor Scooter (originally called the JD Razor) and purchased some samples. The scooter became a hit in Japan and soon wholesalers began importing the scooter into the US. Recognizing the signals of a trend, Carlton, who at the time was manufacturing and selling miniature skateboards throughout the US, decided to distribute the JD Razor. Demand mushroomed into a full blown world-wide fad and RazorUSA was born.
A Razor Scooter is made up of aircraft grade aluminum and consists of the following parts:

- Front Wheel
- Wheel Core (hub)

Strong demand for Razor scooters continues today where they are widely available offline (small and large retailers alike) and online. Scooters have become a staple over everyday life for most kids much like the bicycle or skateboard. Riders have developed a skilled repetoir of tricks and stunts that have attracted enough of a following that many skate parks sponsor events and contests throughout the US.
The types of Razor Scooters that are available now are the A, A2 (A with springless front shocks and wheelie bar), A3 (A2 with rear suspension and kick stand), and A4, or Pro Model, (version of the old B model which is no longer in production which includes a stronger folding system, double sized clamp on t tube, reinforced deck and custom grip tape designed by the Razor Pro Team). There is also an AW model which appears to be only available at Wal*Mart, it is an A model with a wheelie bar.
Additional Razor branded products include electric scooters (e100, e200, e300, Pocket Mod Bistro and Pocket Mod Bella), electric mini-motorcylces (Pocket Rocket, MX350/MX500 dirt bikes and Chopper) and soon ATV's. Razor also makes "scream machines", skateboards, ramps, rails, and "trikkes". Various accessories and replacement parts can be found throughout stores and via Razorama, RazorUSA's primary online retail outlet.
The Razor Pro Team consists of 9 people:
K.C. Corning, Chris Daigle, Dereck Beckering, Eddie Strzalkowski, Jarret Reid, Josh Toy, Mark Atkins, Ricky Wernicke, Scott McCormack.
A few other manufacturers include Micro in Europe and Kryptonics, which just made wheels, in the US. New companies continue to emerge that support the scooter industry such as RazrRak Inc., which manufactures a Scooter Stand or Scooter Rack that works both on the ground or wall-mounted.
