Suspension bridge

A suspension bridge is a bridge that has the road or track suspended between two very high pillars. The road or track is attached to the pillars by heavy wires.
Two main reasons for building a suspension bridge, instead of for instance a cheaper low bridge, are:
- It can span a very wide, deep rift.
- It can be built high over water to allow very tall ships to pass under it.

One of the most famous suspension bridges is the Golden Gate Bridge (USA). One of the first is the Brooklyn Bridge.
