Mike Kinsella
Mike Kinsella is one of two Kinsella sons involved in many Illinois based bands. First reconized in the music scene in Cap'n Jazz, a big player in the refinment of post emo indie rock, he has since step into many new projects. From Cap'n Jazz, he became part of Joan of Arc, a band taking a bit more of an abstract, exparamential approach to the indie music where Cap'n Jazz left off. While playing with Joan of Arc, The One Up Downstairs was formed along with #REDIRECT Steve Lamos #REDIRECT (American Football, #REDIRECT DMS, #REDIRECT The Geese) David and Allen Johnson (#REDIRECT Very Secretary, #REDIRECT Favorite Saints.) The One Up Downstairs never released their 7" recording for #REDIRECT Polyvinyl Records like they had planed because they split up. Their three tracks however do exist and can be found through the internet and message boards. Following the departure of The One Up Downstairs, Mike Kinsella and #REDIRECT Steve Lamos joined #REDIRECT Steve Holmes (#REDIRECT The Geese) and formed #REDIRECT American Football. #REDIRECT American Football created one full length and one EP which were released on Polyvinyl Records and played only a few shows before breaking up. While #REDIRECT Joan of Arc was still existing, The Owls were formed out of the ashes of Cap'n Jazz. Mike's brother, #REDIRECT Tim Kinsella, on vocals, with Mike on Drums, #REDIRECT Victor Villareal on guitar and #REDIRECT Sam Zurick (#REDIRECT Joan of Arc, #REDIRECT Make Believe, #REDIRECT Cap'n Jazz, #REDIRECT Owls, #REDIRECT Ghosts and Vodka, #REDIRECT friend/enemy, #REDIRECT People Dick) on bass. They released one full length titled "Owls." Mike remaines part of #REDIRECT Joan of Arc, and began his current solo project called "#REDIRECT OWEN" in 2002, featuring Mike on everything heard, recording sometimes out of his mother's (#REDIRECT Cap'n Jazz piano guest) home.
Mike continues to play with #REDIRECT Joan of Arc, and perform as #REDIRECT OWEN.
