Gérard Depardieu
Gérard Depardieu (b. December 27, 1948) is a French actor.
His career started in the 1970s. He became one of the leading French actors of the 1980s, gaining much attention for his role opposite Fanny Ardant in Francois Truffaut’s film "La Femme d'à côté".
In the 1990s he achieved some fame in North America too. His most significant English-language productions are Green Card (1990) and 1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992).
His Cyrano de Bergerac (1990) was memorable and earned him a Cesar Award and an Oscar nomination. In 2002 he starred as Obelix in Astérix & Obélix: Mission Cléopâtre.
Gérard Depardieu is the highest paid actor in France, and one of the most powerful within the French film industry. In addition to the more than forty motion-pictures he has appeared in, he has directed and/or produced several major films.
