Jigglypuff (Purin in Japanese) is one of the original Pokémon appearing in the anime series and video games. A cute (kawaii) pink blob with a swirl from its forehead and stubby arms and legs, Jigglypuff has a beautiful singing voice and its most popular attack is to put its opponent to sleep.

Name Origin

Its obvious English name is "jiggly" and "puff," referring to its inflatability. Its Japanese name probably comes from the word "puff."

Anime information

In the TV series, Jigglypuff sings its famous song, which always puts everyone else in the vicinity, Pokémon or human, to sleep. Invariably, Jigglypuff is enraged that people have fallen asleep before being able to hear it finish its song, and scribbles vengefully on their dormant faces with a black marker kept wet under the cap of its microphone.

In-game information

Numbered as #39 of the original 151 Pokémon, Jigglypuff is classified as a Normal type. It will never evolve on its own no matter how long it continues to practice and win battles, but if Jigglypuff makes contact with a Moon Stone, it will evolve into Wigglytuff. A Jigglypuff that has touched the Moon Stone will evolve no matter what level it is.

Jigglypuff cannot put to sleep a Shuppet, a Whismur, or any other pokémon with the Soundproof ability.

Jigglypuff is also a playable character in Super Smash Bros and Super Smash Bros. Melee.
