Michael Huff at NFL.com Edit this at Wikidata Michael Wayne Huff II (born March 6, 1983 in Irving, Texas) is a current American football defensive back for the Oakland Raiders and formerly of The University of Texas Longhorns.

High school career

Huff played cornerback at Nimitz High School in Irving where he went to the playoffs his freshmen and junior years.

College career

As a defensive back at Texas, Huff was selected in 2005 as First Team All American safety by the Associated Press and won the Jim Thorpe Award as the nations best defensive back. In 2002, Huff earned a third-team Freshman All-American selection from the Sporting News. Huff had four career interceptions which have been returned for touchdowns, a school record. In the Rose Bowl game against USC , Huff recovered a fumbled lateral from Reggie Bush, a play that many credit with changing the momentum of the game and helping the 2005 Texas Longhorn football team win the NCAA National Championship.

Entering NFL Draft

On the professional level, Huff could play cornerback or safety, but is projected to play as a strong safety. In 2006 he was ranked the ninth best prospect in the 2006 NFL Draft by Sports Illustrated. On April 29, 2006 he was drafted as the 7th overall pick by the Oakland Raiders. He was the third defensive player chosen after number one overall pick Mario Williams and A. J. Hawk.
