Someday I would like to know enough Japanese to be able to read The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle in its original text, as its English translation is partially abridged. Unfortunately, I currently know just some kanji, some hiragana, and some katakana, as well as a smattering of grammar. The Japanese writing system is quite unlike anything I've ever studied. It would probably help if I were actually diligent at it, but too many things call for my attention.
Did you know...
...that the scientist Nikola Tesla tried to create a tower that would wirelessly transit information and power? The resulting tower, known as Wardenclyffe Tower, was never completed due to funding problems. Tesla also worked along similar lines towards creating a directed-energy weapon or death ray.
